A Few Reasons To Take Your Child To Urgent Care

Your young child has been running a fever and you are worried because he or she is not their normal self. Many parents do not know wether it is better to take them to an urgent care or an emergency room. Well, as a rule of thumb take your children to an emergency room if the problem is life threatening, limb threatening, or really severe injuries. Remember an ER visit is going to be much more expensive than most healthcare. So, with this being said an urgent care visit might be the best thing for you child. Here are a few reasons to take your child to urgent care.

A Fever, And They Can Be Tricky

Many mothers no matter what will take their child into the urgent care if their child is running a fever. Well, a fever can be tricky when it comes to children. Children heat up quicker than adults and so they may have a fever quicker than an adult. As a rule of thumb at three months call and make an appointment at 100.4 degrees, at 3-6 months 101 degrees, and older than 6 months 103 is the magic number. However if your child is running a fever and has other symptoms like coughing, runny nose, diarrhea, chills, or other symptoms it is best to get them to the urgent care.

 Vomiting

Many parents start to get very worried if their child starts to vomit. Well, throwing up is definitely not fun, but it often does not require a trip to the urgent care. If your child has been throwing up for longer than 24 hours and it is getting worse, then it may be time to go to urgent care. The biggest problem that arises from throwing up is dehydration. Be sure that your child's mouth is wet and that they are able to go pee once every 8 hours at least. If dehydration is a concern it is best to take them to the urgent care.

Rashes

A skin rash can develop for a number or reasons such as reaction to soaps and shampoos. Most of the time a rash can be remedied at home, but if they are experiencing other symptoms they may need urgent care. Look for symptoms such as headache, fever, blistering, or bleeding. If your child has these other symptoms along with a rash it is best to take them to the urgent care center.
